The 9th alpha release of Hostboard was installed today and we are definitely moving forward and closing in on a finished product.
The Hostboard3 project now has an anticipated public release date sometime in September and a final beta test (importing of actual data) in August. During the beta stage we will post a system wide notice noting everything going on and what to expect. The current Hostboard site will then be "closed" while we do a final port of the data to the new system.

At this point we know that:

1. We will be loosing ALL custom forum settings.
2. Book marked links will be lost due to new easier to understand URLs
3. We will be loosing most if not all user information except for IDs, passwords, registration dates, post counts.
4. Removing the ability to use HTML within forums.

In addition to our development staff putting adding functionality we have now hired a professional design company to give Hostboard's default new system a fresh new look to showcase what can be done with Hostboard in terms of customability.

As always we are looking for any last minute requests... There is 5 years of suggestions and requests that we have taken in to consideration and are open to more

Hostboard is bouncing back in a serious way!

I should have clarified... User information such as signatures or any non critical information (i.e. YIM, AIM, etc) Post counts join date, will be ported.
All posts will be moved (around 2 million at the moment).

I am exploring the possabilty of haveing a true archive area for each sub community for storing informaiton as well as having the ability to D/L foum information in a spreadsheet compatable format.

We are now running the 11th beta (BETA 12 is due to be released 8/15/08). Huge strides in the Moderator's Control Panel (MCP) with a now finalized design making navigation much easier. There are a few minor options needing to be added along with ALOT of refined wording.
Allowing the customization of individual forums was incredibly complex. The initial release will allow direct editing of the CSS file for each forum. There is a planned graphical interface to simplify this but will not be ready for the initial release.

At his point we are on schedule for a September release date pending the ability to import the data.

Some notable changes...
1. HTML is no longer allowed. We will be using BBCode exclusively.

2. Due to HB3 allowing the creation of sub-catagories to house individual forums the name of the sub-forum will be the same as the name of the forum initialy until the moderator changes it.

3. Video for multiple hosting sites (i.e. YouTube, etc.) is now supported. All you need to do is cut and past the link. The system will automaticaly parse it in to the thread.

4. Ajax is used when ever possible. For example you want to add a new moderator. All you need to do is partialy type in the user ID and the system will bring up the matching results.

5. Besides being a member of Hostboard you can now also join as a member of individual forums.

6. Donations now equate to extended attributes/abilities.

7. Individual Blog support

8. Individual Social Group support

9. Individual picture albums

10. Use of a tag cloud

11. Search engine optimization with easy to understand URLs.

12. While we are porting to an all new platform the new skin/theme will not be ready for the initial release.

13. After 6+ years I will be droping the 1QuickSI ID in favor of going by my first name Steven.

14. And much much more!!!

We are now running the 15th beta. The Moderator's Control Panel (MCP) now has a finalized design making navigation much easier and is now feature locked.
We continue to make strides and enahncements with over 69 known bugs being fixed within the core system and some new functionality being added.

Multiple FAQ updates made. Now including an off line PM management tool, notes on the Hostboard Control Panel and screen captures to help. This might be the second largest part of this project with an attempt to heavily document the entire site.

Unfortunatly the new style/default theme for HB3 will also not be ready for the intial roll out.

At his point we are still on schedule for a September release date pending the ability to import the data.

HB3 is now officialy running version 0.0.17 of the custom code freezing any new development and concentrating soley on bug fixes.
We will be doing a test import of the Hostboard data the week of SEPTEMBER 22ND.

Though registration is disabled thus many features/abilites can not be seen feel free to view the site at:

Within the next week I will be posting screen captures to show off the new site. They will be incorporated in to the online FAQ of the new system. Links will be posted accordingly.
Some options will require you to make a donation in order to gain access to features or expand on features. However the base HB3 system will exceed all the current capabilities of the current system.

Some notable changes...

14. Able to delete your forum. Will be placed in queue for 90 days then be purged. If you decide to keep the forum you can undo the delete request.

15. Dedicated help desk for support.

16. The Moderator Control Panel is now refered to as The Hostboard Control Panel.

17. Custom titles will be increased to 6 and you wil be able to define how many posts are required.

18. Though it will not make the initial release, you will soon be able to export your forum's posts in to a spread sheet compatible format!

19. WYSIWYG editr for both posting and the Hostboard Control Panel.

20. Re-wording of "Message Boards" to "forums" Droping "individual communities" in favor of a singlular "Hostboard Community"

21. One touch banning. Moderators can now click on the users ID and the drop down menu will allow you to ban and purge all the spammers posts within your forum in 2 clicks!

22. Personal stickies. While moderators can force posts to the top of the page, sometimes individuas like to track posts and wish it was a stickie. Well now you can make your own stickies.

23. Post Bits - Current site is what we call "legacy" where avatars, etc are shown verticaly. The new site by default is horizontal. There is now an option to allow users to select how they wish to view the site.

24. And much much more!!!

We are now running Version .19a of our customized software and believe we now have fixes in place for the last few remaining bugs found. As long as .20 tests clean we will then move foward with the data import to the new site and hopefully announce a site move soon afterwards.
The new Hostboard site (HB3) is extremely complex and potentially has the ability to set a new standard for a customized community.

Even though we slipped beyond our initial goal for release the new site by the end of the month we are very close to a production release and once we are confident we have eliminated all the bugs we could find we will make an announcement about moving to the new site.

Absolutly nothing is wrong other then being 3 weeks behind schedule. The new interface is killer and offers alot more then the current system. With much much more planned/in the works.
Tomorrow I will install what should be the last version prior to moving the new site in to production.

At this time I am just writing an intro/explanation of what to expect and where things are located even though I think things are realatively intuative. Once done it will be placed online and we will officially move roughly shortly after.

Hostboard testing continues as we have installed a RC version. Although we have been able to identify 1 bug I believe that we can start importing data from the production site to the new site immediatly.
Due to personal scheduling conflicts which would result in the lack of time to properly support the new site in a production environment, we will not be going live prior to October 28th.
